Crater of Diamonds State Park
South West Arkansas tips on Diamonds;
1. If you are planning a trip there under two weeks confine your seach to "eyeballing"....Don't waste the time and effort building all the equipment you would need for a prolonged visit.
2. If possible visit the area after a heavy rain, everything there (including the diamonds
) sit on little pedistals for you to see.
3. Go to the areas called "Beatty Hill" (Historically the highest producing
place in the field when it was mined back in the 1930s.) Follow that by going to the
"New" and "Old" Pigpens....Ask one of the diggers there where they are
located.
4. Keep the sun over your shoulder when you are seaching if possible.. Same as in panning
gold refraction of light helps!!
5. And the best advice is take 30 to 40 minutes when you arrive there to look very closely
at the diamonds the park has on display and fix them firmly in your mind....Notice that
diamonds do NOT shine!!!! They GLOW!!! Much like a piece of tinfoil.....And they have NO
sharp edges.......
